Max Demian is no Howard Roark... not by a long shot...
it was an ok book... i really liked the ending...
it was an ok book... i really liked the ending...
Strangely enough, I really like this book.
"I was not put on earth to write, or preach, or paint-and nor was anyone else. These things were only secondary. Every person's true calling was only to arrive at himself."
This book is about self-discovery via religion, but I believe there is a homoerotic subtext to all this, that Sinclair is just not aware of. He started as a boy that is so set on being right and bright and good according to the codes that are set out by other, and so he resented Demian, because Demian represented defiance and questions to the system. As he grew, he learnt that to hate Demian is to hate a part of himself, that the world is not just good because it looks proper and bright.
