A girl moves to a new place (Nowhere) and immediately is shipping to a summer camp (Camp Whatever). From there magical stories happen and adventures are aplenty.

Meet Willow, an eleven-year old deaf girl. She is NOT amused by her parents decision to move and is even less happy with the whole having to go to a camp. I can imagine. Two new things in one go? No thank you. But she soon finds out that she is in for a bit adventure and that the world is more magical and weird than she ever would have thought.

I loved seeing a deaf character in a book. It is still not something that happens a lot and so I am happy to see one each time. Because it is definitely needed. I loved seeing her use sign language and also teach her friends bits and pieces. I felt for her when the batteries were stolen (along with the snacks) and hoped that she would get new batteries soon. I loved how the illustrator/author showed us that Willow couldn’t hear by making the text bubbles from others empty.

Willow was an amazing character, and I loved that she followed her own path. That she isn’t afraid. That she is brave and willing to figure out the mystery. There are many scary moments coming up and she braves them all. Go go Willow. She becomes my favourite character.

I had such a big laugh that Willow and her fellow bunkmates/friends kept tricking their camp counsellor.

I received this book from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.

While this was on parts the same level of enjoyment I had for the first book… there was also just a bit too much dialogue, it was just a tad more chaotic, plus the epilogue.. eh. But I did have fun reading it and I would still rate it 3 stars! Since I already wrote like 4-5 reviews today, I will be doing a good/eh breakdown of the book.

LOVE

A homage to summer, cryptids, and growing up. This was a great mystery graphic novel with the perfect amount of spookiness for young readers. The main character, Willow, is a deaf girl who is sent to the same summer camp her dad went to as a child. This would be fine except everything is a bit strange and the campers start to disappear. Together, Willow and her friends investigate what's happening on the island. This was a lot of fun with really nice artwork!

'Secrets of Camp Whatever Vol. 2: The Doors to Nowwhere' by Chris Grine is a graphic novel that takes place in a world of magic and magical creatures.

Willow is given a locked book of spells as a gift and told that she can't open it. This means she will find a way to open it. What she finds is something that is being sought by those who would restart an ancient war.

This is a pretty interesting world with some good characters. The story was unique enough and I enjoyed what I read.

I received a review copy of this graphic novel from Oni Press and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this graphic novel.

Delightfully fun and endearing! I love a good coming-of-age story and when it’s set at camp? It’s usually a recipe for goodness. I have fond memories of my own camp days and reading about adventures, friendship, and discovering cryptids is my idea of a fun time.

I just want to start this off by saying I did not read the first book in the volume in its entirety, I just needed a book to take me out of a slump. This did exactly that.

This second volume of the Camp whatever series takes a dark turn. We follow Willow as she ends up getting involved with an ancient mystery involving all kinds of creatures - vampires, trolls gnomes, you name it!

I have never actually read a fantasy graphic novel so this was a first, but it was quite fun and interesting. The illustrations were great! highly recommend.

Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with this arc in exchange for an honest review.
