I have never laughed out loud reading so often as I did reading this book. Bryson's humor, humanness, and wit shine through. I laughed so hard on an airplane at some point that I had tears run down my face. Loved this book.

A funny and enjoyable listen for a road trip. I was a bit let down with how they quit and skip all the way to Virgina but sometimes we need stories of failure too. I'm glad this was the first thing of his I've listened to, I'm told its the best and since right now I don't see myself reading anything else of his I'm glad I finished it. Inspired me to walk the AT and to get more involved with conservation efforts, and I laughed, so that's good enough.

When I started this book, I had expected it to be like "Wild" except about the Appalachian Trail. While Bryson did talk about his adventures on the trail, a good portion of the book was also spent informing the reader about the history of the trail, and also the forest's fate if we don't care of our environment. For me, he spent too much time talking about past and future because I really just wanted a story of adventure.

I wouldn't like Bryson as a person if I met him, but I might hike the AT one day.

The best Bryson, and the best trail narrative, that I have yet read.

I get the feeling that Bill Bryson undertook this adventure to give him something to write about, and not necessarily for the sake of hiking. As always delightfully written.

Entertaining account of Bryson's rediscovery of nature that would be great without the random political tangents that Bryson goes on. I don't even know what he is for or against because he mostly just thinks everyone sucks. Perhaps would be better to read about someone who completed the whole experience but Bryson is a bit more relatable.
