The images are stunning, how they weave together multiple viewpoints and voices and yet remain clear. The story is the same way. I was excited by how this story developed and am looking forward to reading the next volume, though I will likely stop after that.

So much pretty.
SpoilerI want Batwoman and Wonder Woman to work together always. I love how Batwoman was pretty much fangirling all over the place when Wonder Woman said she'd come back to help her fight. And that all she could think about was wanting to tell Maggie. Loved it.

3.5 stars rounded up to 4 because of that last page which totally made me fangirl for a few hours. the art is still gorgeous by the way.

Ugh, I loved this so much. The art is beautiful, the storytelling is almost immaculate. The story was riveting, interesting. It’s more like a 4.5 for me but it deserves the full 5 stars because I enjoyed it that much. I need to add this to the collection for sure, not sure why I slept on Batwoman for so long!!

What should be a fairly B-grade companion to the DC universe turns out to be one of the most interesting and well-written superhero title in years. Surprisingly original in layout, J.H. Williams III art is staggeringly good. There's one gorgeous splash page after another - but not as you'd expect them.

Sometimes the visual cleverness gets in the way of the story, but this is rare. Kate Kane's a compelling character under pressure for most of this book. Her team-up with Wonder Woman makes complete sense, but the two seem to operate on parallel lines. There's an opportunity missed for some dialogue between the two that would make their friendship more believable. Instead, they just kick a whole lot of ass and are constantly bewildered by whatever's in front of them.

Still, it's absolutely enjoyable and executed with wonderful precision.

UHHH god I really wanted to like this more than I did?? There is a lot to like--the art is gorgeous, I'm all about a Batwoman/Wonder Woman team up, I loved Kate ~coming out~ to Maggie as Batwoman... all of that was great. The plot arc itself seems... confusing and convoluted even for superhero comics? I mean, cool mythology stuff, but maybe a bit rushed? Or maybe just too long since I read volume 2 of this? IDK.

I appreciate the innovative approach this series has taken towards storytelling but that's the problem. It tells too much and shows too little. This series at times feels more like a short story or prose poem with illustrations thrown in than a comic book where the visuals and the writing coincide to unveil a plot and develop characters. I wasn't too pleased with the use of Wonder Woman in this volume and the Killer Croc stuff is just too goofy for my tastes. I'm planning on reading the next volume but hopefully it will steer away from the mythological and get into a more Gotham-themed detective story highlighted with a love story that has been woven into this series from the beginning.
