This book was interesting in the first half, you could feel what it was building to with just the right amount of hints dropped while introducing us to the characters and building our investment in them. It pays off in the second half, which is exciting and tragic and suspenseful not just because of the terrible event that occurs but also the way these characters come (or don't come) together. I really liked it.

Incredible use of different styles for each point of view. Also, heartbreaking.

A story about the complexity of modern Native American life. This one is not for the faint of heart!

The cast of characters is vast and wide. The ones that were more prominent figures were incredibly written and memorable, but the dozen or so others were difficult to keep track of - partly because we just hear from and about them less, partly because several of them had pretty similar vibes. The breadth of characters allows for the beautiful and tragic entanglement of them all, though.

Vivid and powerful!

Wow. This book was a sucker-punch to the gut by the end, but such a poignant and important read. I appreciated the mix of the author’s personal voice on more fact-based pieces interspersed throughout the book and I loved the large cast of characters. Tommy Orange did a wonderful job weaving together the lives of so many in a believable and riveting way. I highly recommend this book, but prepare to be devastated by the end.
