a hard book to rate- Really emotional, intense beginning that completely hooked me, but the ending wasn’t as gratifying as i’d hoped. the way orange jumps between this urgent, metaphorical writing, narrative, and historical-ish interludes is really interesting and new. He’s juggling an impressive amount of elements here, with something like 12 different perspectives that weave together, but overall some felt more authentic than others. Glad I read it, and the raw emotion Orange captures is so creatively done with metaphorical writing. Thematically very strong, but there was still something more I was hoping for...

Best new fiction. So contemporary. So smart. This is what tiring should be like. This author has spoiled me with their richness of voice and tone - unique way of writing and using language to pull out darker tales and topics.

They are the new Zadie Smith. Lin Manuel. Chinamanda Ngozi Adiche. Junot Diaz. Millennial creative minds of our times.

It’s a devastating book. But worth the read even if you try to avoid dark themes. The eye-opening is worth it. Especially if you don’t read a lot by Native American writers.

ADKSJFHLJKEWHUEHFWKAWUHFELAUHVI EXCUSE ME SIR WHAT THE HELL WAS THIS ENDING?????????????????????????

I feel like I learned so much about indigenous culture in such a small amount of time after reading this book.

The author managed to intertwine the characters' lives in a way that felt very organic yet meaningful.

I love an open ending but this one left me at the edge of my seat. It's okay, I'll recover (eventually) but for now I am speechless.

I loved everything about this book, especially the array of numerous distinct narrative voices. The pacing was also really well done, the book flowed so easily and you could feel the build up to the end in every detail. Most importantly, I think this book framed new perspectives to me in a way I haven't seen in other stories. I can't believe this is a debut and will definitely be reading more from this author.
