I liked it, but some parts drug on, and it got pretty predictable. I also was squicked out by the fact that they continued calling each other brother and sister after kissing and basically admitting that their close relationship was always more. Like I would have been fine with it if they stopped considering themselves siblings. The first book was definitely the best, and I felt like bringing Georgia back just made the end of book one feel pointless except for giving Shawn trauma. I also got tired of Certain things being repeated constantly (Shawn calling himself stupid, description of testing units, mentions of Coke, just certain words being overused, etc) overall I think this is such a unique take on zombies and I really enjoy how much research you could tell went into these books.

I loved it. The first book in the trilogy is still my favorite, but this was definitely a satisfying conclusion to the trilogy.

Blackout is about moving on after trauma, coping with loss, and fighting monsters within and without, where every decision costs time and blood. Deadline felt like trying to breathe, Blackout is a defiant scream and headlong charge.

The balance between closing existing plot threads and establishing/closing new ones is very good. The resolution makes sense without feeling inevitable and there are some truly stunning scenes that build rich and tiny worlds which will only be visited once before they’re gone. This is my favorite book of the original trilogy (Deadline is good, but it’s very much the first half of Blackout’s story and it suffers a little for it), and I’m looking forward to checking out Feedback next.
