Another fun novel in the Mass Effect universe, it's on par with the rest of the series as far as quality and pacing. Does it add a lot to enhance the games? Not particularly, except it explains how one character is at at the start of the third game. And are the novels worth reading outside of enjoyment of the games? Again, not really, I don't think anyone would really care or have all the context for the plot and characters that appear in both mediums.

Overall, I enjoyed this series (and I'm skipping the 4th one) for what it is. Video game tie in books that are a quick fun and forgettable read.
