Not as good as the first two. May be the problem with publishers’ contracts mandating a certain number of books. This author is an excellent writer but this time it felt as if he were under a deadline (pardon the pun) of some kind. Better next one, eh, Anthony?

I'm starting to have an odd relationship to the Hawthorne & Horowitz series...I don't enjoy the plots or the characters...but then about 2/3 of the way through I get hooked. Anthony Horowitz is such a skilled author and you can tell he has fun with his writing. Apparently I'll keep reading this series, but really I'm wishing for more Susan Ryeland books.

Why does it take nearly a 100 pages in a mystery novel before a murder occurs?

And...

Why did I hang around trying to figure out what I was reading?

Because...

I love this author? Perhaps.

And...

This could be a particularly interesting series in that the author writes himself into it...

But...

In this third installment of Horowitz with his DI Hawthorne, what was I waiting for?

Well...

I guess I was waiting for the twist at the end, which no doubt occurred. If you can be patient with everything else, it might be worth it.

A Line to Kill is the third book in the Hawthrone and Horowitz series.

This time it took a little longer for a murder to take place. There were a lot of characters in the place where it happened. In the beginning, it felt like all of them had the perfect motive and opportunity, but there were some small details at the crime scene, that are not easily explained, but some were eventually explained rather rapidly at the end of the story.

Although the setting was a bit different, it is at a literary festival on an island, Hawthorne and Horowitz are the perfect duo to get into a crime who-done-it story. Their characters were just like how we knew them from the two previous stories. But, we still don’t know much about Hawthorne, although I like that aspect of his character. So the main characters, as great as always, the island inhabitants and visitors all had their own backstory and it fluently was interlinked into the quest to find out the truth.

It is as good as the other murder mysteries, eventually, the details add up, the truth is revealed and Horowitz writes a book about it.

I listened to the audiobook, and again, it is a very good narration of the different characters.

I recommend this book after you read the first two and if you are interested in mystery, investigating a crime, who-done-it types of stories.
