Super fun, as always. Hard to put down, good amount of leaning into the silliness of the genre.
in the movie version in my head, Hawthorne is played by benedict cumberbatch and Anthony is played by matthew gray gubler

You have to read this series in order, and while each book has its own mystery, it’s a continuing story of the relationship between the two protagonists, taking place over a relatively short period. By this third book, the author and his detective have both become more sympathetic, and the author perhaps increasingly WATSON like. Still it is straight up fun by a master of the genre. Of the three I’ve read I would probably say two was my favorite, but it’s very very close between all of them. I’ll be onto number four shortly.
