3.5 Not the book I wanted it to be, but mostly enjoyable nonetheless. For everyone who thought the twist came completely out of nowhere, I disagree. It wasn’t the person I had been leaning towards, but I didn’t feel like I’d been randomly hit with something out of left field. Wishing the mythological aspect had been a larger part of the plot, as that was why I bought the book in the first place, but it is what it is. Main complaint is that in the scope of the novel there don’t appear to be any well adjusted people anywhere. Every single character has trauma, and without anyone to counterbalance, it all feels very bleak.

Okay this book was not as good as the Silent Patient. It felt like a lot more was left unresolved/unexplained. But I was still completely shocked with the end, and I still found the suspense and mystery to be engaging.

All I can say is that this book made me want to read Tennyson. This was a great mystery all the way around. It kept me guessing to the very end.
