This was a really well-written, well-plotted novel. It was interesting in that it never seemed action-oriented or action packed. It was a book that centered on the main character's personal growth and development as a warrior and as a person, and didn't fall back on using relationships, magic, and fighting to fill out the pages.
It did suffer a little from a lack of consistent narrator--most of the book was limited omniscient from Jacks' point of view, but every now and then Aunt Linda, Hastings, Will, Fitch, even Ellen, would have a paragraph or two of POV. It was an odd choice, and a little alienating the first few times it happened, but it didn't throw me out of the story. I did find that things slowed down enough in the middle that I had a hard time actually reading and not skimming over bits and pieces, but things picked back up in a chapter or so, and I managed to finish it pretty quickly.
I very much enjoyed the society, and uncovering the various layers to how and why the Wizards have structured their laws and rules the way they had. I like stories with a well-built world, and this was definitely one of those.
All in all, a very good novel, nicely written and well concluded. I'm interested to see about the other books in this 'verse, Wizard Heir and Dragon Heir.

Over all it was pretty good, but I thought it could have been better. I sort of wish the story would draw me in a bit more than it did. At times it was hard to get into because the pace was sort of all over the place for me. But the characters made up for it. I enjoyed reading about Jack, he seemed well developed. I guess the most important thing was that I cared what happened to him. I'll definitely read the next book in the series to find out.

Definitely worthwhile to read, but there was no anticipation/build up for anything, so it just fell flat

This is a very good fantasy novel. I will definitely be reading the next one in the series. The characters are so personable and likable. I love all the wizardry! I wonder if the same characters will appear in the next novel? I hope so...

We all have gifts and talents but discovering that you were born a wizard is a bit unusual for this Trinity High School student. Aunt Linda's arrival seems to trigger a series of events for Jack. She whisks him off, along with his two friends, on a trip to learn something more about relatives in Ohio but as it turns out they are not the only ones interested in visiting Susannah's grave.

This series is reminding me a lot of the Arcana Chronicles from Kresley Cole. Different storylines, but the feeling of it was similar to me. Good characters, though I don't love it as much as the Seven Realms, but will keep reading on.
