If you enjoy slow burning, twists and turns and strong characters, this is the book for you. The main character Tom Bale is repaying a debt to an old friend but gets more than he bargained for in America's deep south. Set in the 60's, this book writes about the deep set racism we'd expect of the time, jarring at times but unfortunately a true representation. I found the reality of the book hard to read but I enjoyed the storyline and the investigative work Tom did throughout the book. I really came to like him and enjoyed the personal aspect of the storyline too.
