Kind of like a Divinci Code-type book, but better (it was abotu Dracula). I mean, it was good, but kind of cheesy.

i think it's best if i drop this earlier on than let it drag on for hundreds of pages... i am so bored out of my mind.

DNF At around 20%, couldn't get into this at all. It felt so slow and very choppy, going from the past to the present, without being able to tell the narrator's of each section apart.

This is a book that would have rocked my teen world and shaped the path to my adult self. While I enjoyed it, it did drag in some parts due to the very thorough descriptions of religion, history and historical descriptions - my teenage self would have devoured those as back then I had wanted to study history at some point, my adult self however went a different route and is rediscovering her love for history very slowly.

Also why not let them live at the end after such a long period of absence??? :(

I actually started this one a couple of years ago and only got about 250 pages into it. I picked it up again the other day and became enthralled.returnreturnAdventure, love, legend - this book has a lot going for it. Dracula has taken one of our academic friends and we're on hot pursuit to find him. The strengths of this book is that I truly felt like a fellow academic, chugging through the hills of Europe on a train and burrowing in medieval libraries and museums looking for clues. The weakness (for me) was that at times it felt a little tedious - the research of these academics was thorough and I'm not a researcher.returnreturnIn all - good fun, worth the dry spots, and 4 stars.

I really could not get into this book, I'm a fan of fiction, I'm a fan of fantasy, but I'm not a huge fan of dracula (vlad the impaler) and less a fan of dracula fantasy. So I have decided to just give up on this book. =(

Where to begin? I listened to this book as an audiobook. It was very long and I soon regretted it, but I persevered.
The story is sloooow. It takes a long time to get anywhere. There is interminable descriptions of libraries, books and monasteries. There is practically no action. Actually, the "action scenes" took about 3 minutes long. Several times, I thought the plot was ridiculous. Really? THAT is the reason why the villain does what he does? Really? THAT's the ending "climax"? I'm trying not to say too much, not to give any spoilers... But oh how I do not recommend that book.
