Listened to the audio of this Novella so I flew through it. I haven’t read enough class difference trope romances and I must change that because I loved this! Very little angst :)

Class-crossing even harder to buy into that the Duke book that follows -- that a gentlewoman would marry a blacksmith without any family or social repercussions. But the fantasy of Dare's Spindle Cove clearly covers class as well as romance, so just take it with a grain of salt, and enjoy the amusing characters and the good writing.

I liked it, there were some cringeworthy moments and it was pretty cheesy, but I liked the ending. The quirky Mr. Evermore was a fun twist also I loved Charlotte in this one.

I normally love Tessa Dare's work and some of the Spindle Cove books are among my favorite books. But this was... really awful. Clunky and unconvincing, I felt that Diana deserved much better. This read like a short story that had been padded out to novella length. The guy was both boring and unsettlingly pushy. I didn't like how he was framed as this gentle giant who is so supportive and yet he doesn't ever seem to really listened to her or actually support her in the way she asks him to. They had no chemistry at all. Diana had far more chemistry with Sally Bright or Miss Bertram or even her sister's husband Colin. Disappointing.
