Whenever I hear the term secret war or crisis I start to cringe because it means there's another mega crossover that I'm going to have to buy way too many parts of, this one was not really an exception. This is a weird riff on the original secret war crossover that feature the beyonder creating battle world except in this case Doom acquires the power of the beyonders... Because he does (it's not really explained well) and so he creates a mishmash of the multiverse into a battle world which is very clearly an excuse to write a bunch of "elseworld" spin off mini series (many of which were outstanding), but this overarching story of Doom taking Reed Richard's life, making Susan his wife (which has always been more of a namor thing) Franklin and Valeria his kids and exiling Jonny to the sun and ben to... The core of the planet? I'm still not sure about that one. The whole story is honestly kind of convoluted just very difficult to follow it feels like parts were cut out that were important so we're now missing parts of it it just the whole thing was very difficult to get through.

So sad to give Hickman a low rating. I love his stuff usually. If you love his FF run just read the last issue. It makes a nice conclusion to that story.

Art-wise the book is so pretty. The world created here is fun to look at.

Bullet Review:

Superheroes punch bad guys - only this is cool because there are a LOT of big name heroes? Yawn...

Impressively carried out story and art with Doom as focus
Marvel likes to do these microcosm mashups and odd timelines, throwing things on their heads, see Age of Apocalypse, Age of X, House of M, etc. This impressive cross-over collection by Hickman has Dr. Doom assuming the mantle of power from the Beyonders and shaping a new planet and reality as its god emperor. I've been going through my OHC collections I have had on the shelf unread for many years (Age of Ultron, Axis) and this has so far been the best one. I also liked that the art was done by a single person through the whole set and it was art that resonated with me compared to some of the others in the prior mentioned series. Overall, a very recommended read! (j4.)

I really enjoyed this comic. It was quite different to all of the other comics I've read but I really enjoyed the alternative universe/multiverse aspect of this and how the story played out.
