It’s froth and halfway to being cozy. It gets an extra star for not being unreadable but there’s no depth or grit. Sarah Painter's 'Crow Investigations' does this better.
PS There's a little nod to the excellent Ben Aaronovitch's 'Foxglove Summer'

Shallow world building for most of the book then a rushed ending focussed on one of the characters whose character had not been given any depth or much mystery through the previous chapters. Some holes in the plot relating to who could or couldn’t see the dead as far as I understood it.

It might only be Day 14 of 2023 but beating this urban fantasy is going to take some doing

This was a really fun urban fantasy set in Liverpool (I've never read a book set in Liverpool before! So I was very excited about it). I liked that the protagonist was in her 30s, and how as authors and readers of modern urban fantasy age so do their protagonists. I also really liked the main character, who took turning into a zombie and its attendant introduction to the supernatural world so much in stride. She just wanted to run her cafe, hang out with her friends and maybe go on a date! But as she gets pulled into the supernatural affairs of Liverpool, when she has to save the city of course she does that too. I also really enjoyed how the different undead and long-lived creatures of Liverpool all knew each other and, instead of waging a war against each other, some of them are friends, some rivals, some enemies and all put up with each other's company. This was a really lovely, well-told fantasy with a great main character. The only thing I didn't like about it was the amount of things and answers left out for what looks to be a long series to come. However, I will certainly be reading the sequel!
