This is book is definitely a peak into the past at a company that was there with the dot com boom and was one of the successful companies.
Jim Clark no doubt had the experience and wealth to start a company such as Netscape but...

Unfortunately, Jim Clark who co-founded the Netscape team with Marc Andreessen, wrote this book from his point of view which is not that exciting to read.

I was really looking forward to reading about how Netscape became the "first" browser; how JavaScript was created and even more interestingly how SSL was formed to create "secure sockets layers" to protect information on the web. Or even how they took on Microsoft (as the subtitle reads) and eventually becoming acquired by AOL.
Unfortunately all that type of information was not inside this book, with the fight with Microsoft being just under 1 chapter.

This book didn't deliver on my hopes of what it was about. However, it wasn't a bad read, just not very interesting.

The interesting parts, such as the culture of a dot com company were quickly glossed over. And a few times Jim Clark went a little overboard in complaining about his previous company, Silicon Graphics, about how he was basically outed at the company.

Thankfully he met up with Marc Andreessen and was able to recruit some previous colleagues and thus created something for the history books, (after a few name changes) Netscape Navigator.

2/5 stars
