Ah young love… something so tumultuous. an entire rollercoaster of emotions!!! finding love at its most beautiful and at its ugliest. the indescribable feeling in ur chest when they acknowledge you and the disappointment when you find out that love is not always reciprocated. all of these are weaved into the narration. Zinaida is a fun character and my favourite parts of this were the philosophical discussions she’d ignite with her various suitors.
The writing was pretty but not nearly as captivating as I’d expected.
If you’re looking for a traditional romance between characters close in age this is not that.
Overall I found it to be pretty forgettable but it’s a very accessible introduction to Russian literature.

The plot twist was expected and for some reason didn’t have the emotional resonance I assumed it would. Maybe it’s because the main dude seemed so uninteresting in comparison to Zinaida.
The writing was pretty but not nearly as captivating as I’d expected.
If you’re looking for a traditional romance between characters close in age this is not that.
Overall I found it to be pretty forgettable but it’s a very accessible introduction to Russian literature.

I read this late one night, and it was something beautiful to behold. The precious statements about first love, about someone having a hold on you and you do realize this, but you think it's harmless. This was a perfect read to start the year with. We all had a first love whom we just adored and somehow, unlucky as we are, we were hurt by it. 5 stars. I couldnt give it any higher than this.
