Other Birds

emotional inspiring medium-paced

The buildings blocks of this book were all really me— ghosts, birds, found family, small town, murder, mystery, multiple POVs…. But this didn’t work. It did too much and not enough. It felt underbaked and too quick but somehow was 300 pages. The pacing also felt off— I found some elements too quick and all tell
No show whereas other moments dragged…. Unfortunately not a hit for me.

Can’t explain how this story resonates with me; the characters and their baggage. Zoey, Charlotte, Mac and the ghosts. I felt like I was right there on Mallow Island. We all are flawed.

I feel like there’s a cult subplot in a significant amount of like “feel-good books about love and loss” and idk is that just me?? how does this keep happening???

I mean like not a lot but enough for me to notice right

This was a sweet, tenderhearted little read. I enjoyed it.

3.5 stars, rounded up. Zoey moves into her late mother’s condo on Mallow Island, South Carolina. She brings an empty birdcage, with an invisible bird, named Pigeon. That same night, one of the residents dies suddenly, when a bookcase falls on her. However, that sad incident leads to Zoey meeting all the other residents of the Dellawisp, including the blue birds that try to regulate activities. The story of each resident slowly unfolds, along with 3 ghosts still living at the Dellawisp. Each resident has their own family hardship and struggle with current relationships. This is a nice, light, feel-good story. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing an ARC.
