I first heard of Forough Farrokhzad when I was doing #52filmsbywomen. She was one of the rare, early female directors and a fucking fabulous one at that (everyone check out The House is Black. Pretty sure it's on Vimeo.) As it turns out, that is not the only exceptional thing about her. This lady had a LIFE detailed in the short but packed biography section.

Even though I found the poems frequently inaccessible, Farrokhzad's defiance and sensuality always through my confusion. An empowering example of someone "living their truth."
