Everything you'd expect from an old book: old language, some sexism & child abuse... But I'm making it sound scary & dark, which it is, but only if you're five years old. It's actually a very sweet, creative, fun book that my kids (ages 5 & 7) loved. It made bedtime easier because they could hardly wait to hear "moon-face" as we called it. The book has 3 young children who live in the country near an enchanted forest. In the forest is a magical tree with many interesting & endearing characters living within & around it. The tree is so large & magical that it's top reaches into the clouds where a rotation of magical lands - some good & others not so good- move in and out. The children & their tree folk friends explore these lands and experience many adventures together.
I've read this book many times since I was a young child and I have to say it's a fantastic book and I would recommend reading it and reading it to you get children they would love it

In comparison to the last 2 books of the franchise I'd say there was definitely more sexism in this. But it didn't make it unreadable, as it was smaller things which are just a little annoying to read and then you move on.
I always used to love this book the most in the Faraway Tree books because of the troll story and Connie losing her voice. It just seemed like the most fun book. I can't wait to finish this franchise again.

I love the magic of this iconic book. Not quite a 5 star book though due to its predictability. Overall, nice book that reminds me of when I was younger.
