I only found out in the recent past that there was an entire series of oz books, so I decided to read through them out of curiosity.
While they haven’t been anything earth-shattering, they feel like classics that are great for reading aloud to kids (so far).

It's sexist to be sure, and I don't like the way everyone treats Jack Pumpkinhead. He's actually a very Zen-like character they should listen to. But the land of Oz is fantastical and Baum writes beautifully and with wit. I think these books really stoked my imagination as a child and I enjoyed them as an adult!
