This was a fun little story! Baum’s writing is easy to get into and the story is just as strange and whimsical as the first book. I was genuinely surprised to see such female-empowered themes sprinkled in the book for its time period, and even though there were still some stereotypes about women mentioned, I think Baum was writing something ahead of its time and that was a nice surprise.

ozma my trans queen ❤️ also i hate the woggle bug so much. even more than i hate boq

I recently acquired a set of Oz books and will probably re-read them slowly. This one's good, although it's never been a favorite. It was about as a remembered it.

I’m still sick and my brain just isn’t working well, so I needed another simple book. Back to the Oz series! While simple, the absurd characters and their adventures are entertaining. There are definitely many moments where you can tell this was written around the turn of the century (and a vocabulary word that I sure hope meant something different then!). An entertaining story, yet I remember (I read at least some of this series probably 15 years ago) this series talking more about the different races in Oz and I look forward to exploring that in future books.

7 of 10 and 5 of 5 for readability. Perfect for my exhausted, sick brain!

This book was a delight! In my opinion it was written far better than the first - though the first is still obviously classic - it is, of course, still a children's novel, but the pacing is infinitely better. A lot of it is very witty and extremely absurd. Some parts don't quite make sense in relation to the first book, but no change is so major that it breaks the world Baum has created. This book had parts that were so funny. I can't defend all of the book though, Jack deserved better and where the hell is the Lion? (Among other things) But I largely enjoyed this book! The woggle bug can eat my shoe though.

The Marvelous Land of Oz turned out to be a fantastic sequel to the original Wizard of Oz! I absolutely loved following Tip and Jack the Pumpkinhead on their lively adventures. The world of Oz is brimming with new characters, creatures, magic, and plenty of fun surprises. It was also a delight revisiting some of the characters from the first book and seeing how their lives evolved after Dorothy returned to Kansas.
The biggest highlight, for me, was the twist at the end—I genuinely didn’t see it coming, but once revealed, it made perfect sense! I’m surprised this sequel often gets left out of modern print editions that combine several Oz stories into one volume. I plan to continue reading through the series to see just how significant this book is in the grand scheme of things. Overall, it sets the stage for many more thrilling adventures to come!
