After reading the first book I was expecting a similar writing style/order, but it was changed with this book. In the first book it seemed fast, the pacing was off, and chapters seemed short whereas this book felt more natural and had longer chapters. The beginning of the book was enjoyable, but by the middle it began to feel slow and boring, but once I reached one of the last ten chapters my interest peaked and WOW I loved the ending! If you enjoyed reading "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" then I highly recommend this book as this one opens the world of Oz to you more and sets the stage for what is to come.

I found this book rather slow. I wasn't quite putting all my attention into it though, so that might explain it. I did enjoy it enough, and I'm looking forward to reading the next one.
Read all in one day. This story has some interesting and delightful twists and turns. Highly progressive thoughts for its time period as well as wisdom sandwiched in here and there. Also, I see it functioning as something children engage with for its fantastical and silly aspects.
On the up side, the inventiveness of the unusual characters and the fast paced plot kept my interest the entire way through. Also I enjoyed the positive attitudes of the Tin Man and the Scarecrow, always keeping the peace amongst the crew of travelers. On the down side, the plot starts with random and unmotivated decisions, such as Tip and Jack setting off for the Emerald City for no reason other than wanting to meet the Scarecrow. In the Wizard of Oz everyone had a strong motivation for everything they did, the desire for brains, heart, courage, and going home. There were also a few distracting problems with continuity in the plot of this book, such as the Tin Man's ax is taken from him by the army of girls, but a few pages later he has it back and there is no explanation of how.
The vast majority of the book had much to enjoy and especially funny humor throughout. I loved the scene where Jack Pumpkinhead meets the Scarecrow and assumes that they speak different languages from each other, since Jack is from a different country. Scarecrow calls for an interpreter, a mischievous little girl who milks Jack's confusion by giving bogus interpretations. The little girl stirs up trouble and misunderstanding between Jack and the Scarecrow until her gag is broken by her laughter.
Despite Tip's annoyance at the Woggle-Bug's punning, I enjoyed his plays on words. However, overall I'd say the Woggle-Bug's attitude of excessive pride in his education was somewhat annoying. The same might be said for Jack's repeated worries about his pumpkinhead being damaged, dented, or destroyed.
Still I loved the scope of this story and the humor of the dialogue. I found the surprise ending magical and amusing. I do plan to read more of the books in the Oz series!

This one is pretty neat. You get a lot of new and interesting characters. And I mean COME ONE take over Emerald city with KNITTING NEEDLES...AWESOME.
