A very informative book about a man that we really don’t know a great deal about. And concisely done.

I love Shakespeare, but I didn’t ever realise how much of his life is supposition or guess work. What we do know about him we are very lucky to actually know and if only we could find a way of learning more about him.

Bryson approaches this book with the knowledge that he isn’t going to produce information that no one has ever seen before, but instead just gathers all the information that we do know. He adds context for the parts of history that we aren’t always taught about and he very cleverly breaks down the arguments that Shakespeare wasn’t Shakespeare.

All in all, a nice read for a Sunday afternoon.

Pretty interesting. It is amazing to me how little we can actually know for certain about Shakespeare.
