Incest subplot too gross to handle.

Seriously, I can't understand the propaganda for this book. It's awful from so many aspects. I really struggled reading it

Too many characters and a world that was difficult to imagine. And although the characters did a lot of talking, seems not much was said. Lots of drama and it just didn't grab me after almost half the book, so I'm giving up on this one. It just wasn't for me.

Fast paced read. Totally entertaining and intriguing. For fans of Gossip Girl, PLL, the Luxe, and Big Little Lies. High school, mature reader.

I picked this up after seeing multiple advertisements in the NYC subways last summer - so, yes, I did fall for their marketing schemes, but please read on…

There’s something about this book that tears me apart. On the one hand, I love the world McGee sets up, and even the plot has the potential to be incredibly interesting. On the other hand, it feels like a dystopian Gossip Girl substitute and, honestly, I’m not a fan of GG. But let’s forget about GG for a minute.

It’s well-written, which is always a big plus for me. Not a beautiful piece of literature by any measure, but it’s readable and flows well. The characters are o.k., if a bit cookie-cutter and predictable in some aspects. The plot has the potential to be something, but seems to sometimes get lost.

Overall, I’d rate this a 4 mostly for hope — hope that the plot will play out well and this incredibly world that McGee has setup doesn’t become a trainwreck. It’s definitely not mediocre enough to warrant a 3, but not a book I’ll be keeping by my bedside every night to warrant a 5 — unless she does a complete shocker turnaround in the next installment (which I definitely would not be against).

In the end, I would recommend this book for easy reading and allowing yourself to delve into a cool world. Alternatively, wait for the rest of the books to come out and then see if it becomes a complete trainwreck not worthy of your reading time (I sincerely hope otherwise).

This book was addicting and reminded me of a teen drama with all of the twists and turns! I would recommend it, as I thought it was well written and captivating, but I am only giving it 4 stars due to the adopted sibling incest, which made me a little uncomfortable.

I didn't really like the ending. So many things were still unresolved. It was still an enjoyable read though!

- I really dislike the Avery and Atlas, they are stupid and overdramatic. They are not acually siblings, so what's the big deal?! It's a bit strange (okay very strange), but it's not actual incest, get over yourselves.
+ Rylin, looove her and Cord. Again would have liked to see some plotlines resolved by the end. Everything was just ended in this super shitty way where every single person is in a bad situation.
- Avery and Leda are horrible friends, just horrible.
+ Eriel <3
- Eriel being effectiely ended because, you know, death.
- Again, Avery and Atlas are so horribly annoying and there is nothing at all that I like about their relationship. Atlas just seems like a personality-free asshat with a crooked tooth. At least Avery is a kind person, but why is she so stupid?!
+ I was actually suprised by who died at the end, hated it, but it was unexpected.

Um... wow. I don't think I've been that uncomfortable and horrified in a while.

This totally gave me Gossip Girl vibes! Full of Glitz, glamour, betrayal, romance, etc! I can’t wait to continue the series

⭐4.5/5 ⭐
