Recommended to me by the woman at Barnes and Noble after I told her I really liked post-apocalyptic and dystopian fiction- I think she may have been a little off the mark.
This novel really read more like Gossip Girl that takes place in the future. It was an entertaining concept, and I enjoyed the way that the cast of main characters interacted. However, I was expecting more depth and was disappointed by the let-down of the recommendation.
And there was some ick factor going on as well that I just really couldn't get over. For Pete's sake.

Basically, if Gossip Girl and Pretty Little Liars took place in a futuristic skyscraper, and had incest between adopted siblings, it would be this book.
Possibly one of the most atrocious cases of “bury your gays” I’ve ever seen.JUSTICE FOR ERIS AND MARIEL bc there HAD to have been a better way to get Mariel involved in the upper floors without Eris dying. Especially after Eris and Mariel’s relationship led to the best character growth and best romance in this fucking novel.
Also fuck the weird incest shit between Atlas and Avery. Gross af and Avery deserves to be blackmailed for that shit lmao. No way she rejected Watt to fuck her brother.
There were so many opportunities for antihero/morally gray characters to be developed. Instead, we get weird racial stereotyping and misogyny pervading this entire book.
TL;DR This novel would not have passed the Bechdel test.

Saw someone describing this as a futuristic Gossip Girl and I couldn’t agree more. The sci-fi aspect of it was such a great idea and I wish it could’ve been more explored, but the main focus of this book is the drama. I was in the mood for something like this, so I enjoyed it!
Deseando ver q pasa... ;)

This shit was crazy??? Sci-fi gossip girl mixed with actual manslaughter and incest… wow, this book sure was something.

This was hilariously stupid. But the part of me that would binge Gossip Girl a decade ago had to keep going. Because this is 100% Gossip Girl 2118. High schoolers doing whatever they want with drugs, alcohol, and each other in a twisted bubble of classism.
Avery = Blair
Atlas = Chuck
Leda = Serena
Cord = Nate
Rylin = Vanessa
Watt (+ Nadia) = Dan (+ Gossip Girl)
Eris = just an heiress
And yes, while there’s pseudo-incest that caught me off guard super early on… the likes of Game of Thrones has reset the threshold of tolerance. Unfortunately.
What was most jarring to me, as a Floridian, was that a club was named Pulse. This book came out 2 months after the Pulse shooting in Orlando. I winced a little every time it was mentioned.
Bring on Book 2!
Graphic: Drug use, Incest
Moderate: Death, Stalking, Murder, Alcohol, Classism
