What do a beautiful yet bored former influencer, a retired NHL hockey player, college sweethearts, and a misunderstood high schooler have in common? They’re all unlikable, and they are all involved in this super dark no holds barred domestic suspense. On an island in the Pacific Northwest, a night of debauchery has far reaching consequences for two couples. This one has a ton of triggers in this including infertility, thoughts of suicide, abuse, gaslighting… yet somehow it works if you suspend your disbelief. Harding is great at writing popcorn thrillers, and while I enjoyed her book The Arrangement even more, I did race through this.
This is a great book about loneliness and manipulation. Everything else stems from those two things. I kept wanting to give a few of the characters a good solid shake as they recognized what was happening to them, justified it, and went back for more. In that way, a somewhat frustrating read. but, I do kind of like how it all ended.
Fun and entertaining summer read, although a little tamer than I was expecting with the title.

Disappointed. The characters were annoying and it was boring. It wasn't provocative nor thrilling. I often felt bored reading this. I did appreciate the commentary on friendship and obsession, men who are victims domestic violence( I would have really liked the book had it focused on that and max more), social media, the dark side of being a mom.
Overall I thought this was really enjoyable. I don't know if I would classify it as a true thriller, but I'm also not sure how else to categorize it.
The whole time I was reading it I felt like I had notes. Like, we're following two women, but it would have been more effective if it was only one. Also, there is a lot of legend and rumours about the people on the island, but the only people you meet are outcasts, so you don't get a true sense of what the island is.
That being said, it was really fun, really engaging, and I had a good time.

Loved this book. Finished it in one sitting. The ending was just a little odd for me
