Wundervoll düstere Geschichte im Tim Burton Stil
Dieses Buch ist alles, was ich mir von ihm wünschen könnte. Es ist im besten Sinne skurril und den Stil könnte man wohl mit "Tim Burton trifft Roald Dahl trifft Lemony Snicket" beschreiben (vielleicht auch etwas "Crimson Peak" -nur ohne Geister), aber das beweist wohl hauptsächlich, wie vorherrschend die stilistischen Verbindungen zum Genre des Schauerromans ist).
Es ist düster, manchmal regelrecht verstörend, würde man länger darüber nachdenken (daher auch der Vergleich zu Roald Dahl) und baut auch ernste Themen unserer Welt ein, die jedoch ungewertet bleiben und daher nicht ablenkend wirken.
Den Feinschliff erhält die Geschichte schließlich durch die atmosphärischen und im Stil stimmigen Illustrationen des Autors höchstpersönlich, die einen durch die unheimlichen Szenerien begleiten.
Ein großartiger Auftakt, wie ich finde, der mich schon auf die nächsten Teile gespannt sein lässt.
Wonderfully dark story in Tim-Burton-Style
This book is everything I could want from him. It's bizarre in the best sense and the style could probably be described as "Tim Burton meets Roald Dahl meets Lemony Snicket" (maybe a bit "Crimson Peak" too -only without ghosts), but I guess that mainly proves how prevalent the stylistic connections to the genre of the gothic novel are).
It is dark, sometimes downright disturbing if one were to think about it for longer (hence the comparison to Roald Dahl) and also incorporates serious themes of our world, but these remain unvalued and are therefore not distracting.
Finally, the story is given the finishing touch by the atmospheric and stylistically coherent illustrations by the author himself, which accompany the reader through the eerie settings.
A great start, in my opinion, which makes me look forward to the sequels.
