I couldn’t get into the story. My interest was peaked around the 300 page mark, and the twist was unexpected, but I just don’t care about the characters; they seemed very flat and generic. My whole reaction was just, “Blah.”
A delightful trek through Wonderland, although not the one you may have heard about. I personally did not see the twists coming and I was looking eagerly for them. Characters are well rounded, some of which you will love to be frustrated with.
I didn't capture everything I needed in order to give this an honest review. I love Alice in Wonderland so for now, until I listen again or purchase a hard copy, this is all I can do for a review.
Going into this book i didn't really have too many expectations, but I loved everything about it, the plot, the writing, the characters. If you love the twisted side of wonderland I would 10/10 recommend!

That was a major NO to me, unfortunately. I was really hoping for a good, interesting and inventive Alice in Wonderland retelling. The idea of this book was great, but it was poorly executed - yes, the writing was compelling and easy, but the way the author portrayed mental illness and stigmatized it (I mean, PADDED CELLS? Really? The way Ali's mom was treated took me back to the 1900's. The portrayal of mental health facilities and care was just absurd and hurtful, especially since it's a book for young readers.), the awful cliché tropes (the emo girl with ZERO female friends because they are all jealous of her and they compete on everything, especially boys, the romance with a compromised popular boy, etc) and the very unsurprising direction the plot was taking were more than I could take. Also, one of the main romantic leads is a problematic alpha male who seems to think he owns Ali, and he alone knows what's best for her. He is pushy and annoying.
Although I did enjoy the main lead, she's opinionated, sarcastic and smart, she was a bit too naive and childish at times. Especially when Jeb was concerned (she mainly just blushed and swooned). I'm not going through this series or even this book. I have a lot on my TBR to be held back by a read I already know I won't enjoy.

This darker retelling of Alice in Wonderland had a really interesting premise, and I enjoyed the author's interpretations of the characters from the original work. My big issue with the book was Alyssa's two love interests. I thought that both Jeb and Morpheus were too manipulative/controlling, and I couldn't root for either of them. I also felt like Alyssa would have been a more developed character if the love triangle had been less of a plotline, because the story could have focused more on her relationship to Wonderland. I also thought that there were a couple major holes in the plot, but I won't outline those because they are spoiler-y. One of them bugged me a lot though, because I felt like the decision that was made would have really altered the past, and that was never addressed.
I think I would have loved this book in middle/high school, but as I get older I'm much less forgiving of bratty love interests / unnecessary love triangles.

Oh my god, this book is really good! Anymore it is so hard to find an original Alice in Wonderland rebelling or spin off. But this was an excellent read and it was a new concept.
All of the characters were real while I was reading them. This wasn't make believe, this was a creepy alternate universe with its own world and beings.
The best part, I think, was the creep factor. Alice in Wonderland is a little strange but this revved it up a notch. If I saw most of these characters in real life I'd be walking the other direction.
Now, what threw me off and got me to take off the star. Four or so chapters from the end the author just flipped everything on its head. Not giving any details, but just be ready to rethink everything you thought you knew at the beginning of the book. And that may sound like the best plot twist ever, but it actually really messed me up, because all through the novel you're figuring out this world and why Our main character is there and how she is going to solve this issue. But everything you learn along the way, just throw it out the window.
Other than that one misstep, which could also be great for some people depending on what you like to read, I enjoyed this novel a lot. 100% would recommend!

I'm gonna have to DNF this one for now. I enjoyed the first part of this book but I'm not enjoying it as much and I would rather read other books I'm going to enjoy instead of pushing through this one
