I first read this in fifth grade, and borrowed the book from my school library. Well, I never took the book back, so here, almost 40 years later, I am admitting to such on these internets.

Aside from the petty larceny, I fell in love with the characters and the use of Egyptian mythology as a wonderland for these kids to play in. I reread it recently, and it still has that same charm, that same sense of wonder, and I hope some kid still gets a copy somewhere and loves it like I did.

Maybe I'll give them my library book copy, and they'll have to pay the fine. (Kidding.)

Freaking delightful. Four stars rounded up for the fantastic illustrations, I want so many more of them.

Instead of finishing the other 7 books I'm reading I'll just reread a kid's book again.

But this book is amazing and one of my favorites since elementary school, I highly recommend it. It is exactly what me and my friends would do as kids.

Reread. I loved the book when I was younger it’s one of the reasons I became obsessed with all things ancient Egypt. Fun to go back and do it again.

This is a fun book. A game of imagination all based around history. And you can't help but like the characters.

One of my childhood faves.

Read this with a 6th Grade English class. Starts slow, but is a good story for this age.

I loved this book as a kid and it absolutely holds up to an adult reading. A group of friends use their imaginations to re-create Egypt in an unused back lot, but begin to feel uneasy when their "oracle" really starts answering their questions. The characters all feel real, and although "issues" are addressed it doesn't seem fake and it doesn't talk down to kids. Now I just need to find a copy of The Headless Cupid. Thanks Choo!

A fun middle grade book that is full of nostalgia for me personally. Different kids from different families come together to play games and explore their imaginations at the end of their childhood.
