The suspense built up beautifully, only to come crashing down as Crighton dug himself a hole. The way it ended was terrible. Beyond terrible. I felt totally cheated.

This is not as original as for example Jurassic park, seeing as how the description of the spaceship is almost exactly the same as in Arthur C. Clarke's Rendezvous with Rama. From the interesting discovery part the book gets annoyingly predictable and the plot is sub par. I did like some things so it gets two stars.

Super gripping! I read this in less than 24 hours. The escapism is real.

I was expecting this to be more of a horror/sci-fi hybrid akin to "Alien" but the bulk of it is a psychological thriller with some sci-fi mixed in there. I liked Crichton's quick-paced writing; it made the plot move along well and prevent me from feeling bored or worn out. The overall story gets a little too fantastical for me by the end, but overall it was a pretty enjoyable read.
