I can't wait for the 4th book to come out. Defiantly would read this series. It is sooooo very worth your time!

Whilst the whole book is a bit of a beautiful hot mess, I still can't stop re-reading. The depression sequence is - surprisingly - one of my favourite depictions of depression ever.

I fail to see the hype around this book series, from the poor writing to the limited character growth, the predatory relationship and the complete lack of chemistry between Bella and her love interests.
I was beginning to enjoy the story when they first introduced Jacob, Bella seemed to actually have some type of bond with him even if all she could think about was Edward subconsciously. They seemed to actually be friendly and she cared about his whereabouts, constantly sitting by the phone and watching out for him in case he was in trouble.
I did NOT enjoy the sudden change in story with Edward coming back and Bella acting as if he was some perfect angel who hadn’t left her horribly depressed and in the middle of the woods to fend for herself. Bella acts very childlike and immature for a good portion of the first two books. Her denial with the reality of how Edward treats her, her disgust with aging to even TWENTY years old, her anger being prevalent with Charlie but she has absolutely none for Edward.
I would have enjoyed this series more if, Edward was not 110 and Bella was freshly 18; the author makes this such a drastic part of the book, Bella’s disgust with aging, and I found it absolutely predatory. If Edward had just freshly became a vampire, Jacob and Edward formed a love triangle with Bella, or if Bella were to be able to become aware of the weird behavior of Edward and stand up to his possessiveness, it would have made the story a little better.
I also think making the story a horror book instead of a romance would have made much more sense. It seems that Bella’s attachment to Edward is unnatural and intense. Edward did clarify that vampires just have that effect on humans which makes it even more sinister the way he preys on such a young girl and not only marries her but turns her into what he is, after stating the WHOLE book that he hates what he is!

too much jacob not enough edward 😛
but otherwise very fun, very addictive.

once again book bella is a crazy mf i love her.

I’m ngl y’all, this one was rough for me. It wasn’t even the fact that there was no Edward (though that was part of it). It was the fact that I hadn’t even realized without Edward to distract me how insufferable Bella is. If I took a shot every time I wanted to slap her, I’d be dead. Passed out not even halfway through. She was… URGH. And my dislike for Jacob—which I didn’t even have until this book—has sprouted. 2.5 rounded down

The rose-tinted glasses are off, folks. While Jacob and Charlie remain shining stars (seriously, where can I get me a Charlie in my life?), this sequel left me more frustrated and done. Where do I begin?

Let’s just start with Edward. Edward, Edward, Edward. Where'd the sensible guy from book one go? Remember Team Edward (well, honestly, team everyone aside from Bella)? Yeah, me too. It seems that all rational decision making went out the door here. I learned that instead of solving problems, rather easy problems, too, I might add, we either run from them or try to commit suicide. Cool. Not exactly the strong hero I remember. And the whole "I must leave you for your own good" routine? Worn out, overused, and frankly, cowardly. It just doesn't work, Edward.

And, Bella? Homegirl is still the reigning champion of horrible decision making. She was irresponsible, selfish, and a danger to herself and everyone around her. Let's unpack this, shall we? Using Jacob like a spare tire? Downright cruel. Risking her life for what sounded like a bad case of the insomnia? Real smart, Bella. And vanishing on a rescue mission without a word to Charlie (seriously, treat your dad better) only to act surprised when everyone's mad? Girl, own your choices and apologize. But the real kicker? Forgiving Edward after his disappearing act that sent her into a months-long depression? Bella, I didn’t have much respect for you to begin with, but I lost all hope for you here.

This leads me to my big qualm with the overall plot of the story. Why did Stephanie Meyer decide to end the book this way and write Bella like this? There were other options for how this book could have ended and how the series could have continued. I don’t understand how this book started with him saying he never loved her, leaving her for months, and ended with them talking about getting married? What.

And, last but not least, can Bella please be a better daughter and friend? Justice for Charlie. Justice for Jacob.

I do plan on rereading Eclipse, but now it’s mostly out of curiosity. I don’t remember it very well, and I want to see if either of these characters redeem themselves (I know Bella won’t).
