low-key I really didn’t like this one as much as the first book for many many reasons, but I think the one that stuck out to me the most was probably just how blatantly racist I feel the treatment of Jacob and his family are even if we suspend disbelief about the whole them. Being werewolves thing is incredibly exploitative to the real tribe, the fact that it’s presented to us that the quileute and the vampires have an equal prejudice when it’s very clear to me that the quileute have a much more valid reason than the Cullens for their distrust— also I got the permanent ick from Edward in this novel, I just really don’t find him attractive personality wise.

There are some decent things about this book, and I do love Jacob so much. But it drags endlessly, I found myself bored and wishing to get to the end as I read. Not to mention, I understand Bella's despair, and it is described in accurate detail... but that doesn't make it any more entertaining to read. She is insufferable. There were parts of the book that I like. I love the werewolves. But it's just not as fun as the first one.

“I’d never seen anything more beautiful — even as I ran, gasping and screaming, I could appreciate that. And the last seven months meant nothing. And his words in the forest meant nothing. And it did not matter if he did not want me. I would never want anything but him, no matter how long I lived.”
