Beautiful story telling. I'm starting with Magic Lessons and making my way through the series in story chronological order (not publishing order). I'm so excited to continue hearing about these wonderful women and what stories they tell.

I love the movie Practical Magic and wanted to read the book/s. Decided to do so in chronological, rather than written, order.
I really enjoyed this, it was an easy listen. I think the narrator should have probably looked up some of the Dutch pronunciations before attempting them but they are few.
I enjoyed the relationships with the familiars in particular and wish that had been shown in more depth.

Practical Magic is a book I love and I normally enjoy Alice Hoffman's writing but I had a very hard time getting invested in Magic Lessons. I found myself often just annoyed with Maria's character. It was slow and fairly predictable. I'm struggling to find what this book really added to the series that wasn't already discussed in Practical Magic.

The Origins of the Owen’s women.
An interesting prequel to Practical Magic. I loved learning more of Maria Owens back story and hearing the journey of her life. Loved the ending and I look forward to reading The Rules of Magic next.

this book took me way too long to finish, i had to borrow it from the library twice because i don’t give up hahaha
it wasn’t anything remarkable for me tbh and i didn’t really much care for any of the characters and the men absolutely irritated me with their 1600s backwards logic
i really did enjoy the vivid picture the author painted and the descriptions but at times it was very very wordy and repetitive with each different perspective looking at the same scene
