This prequel story was fascinating and complex, but unfortunately more violent than I like reading. Even though I liked this one, I don't think I'll continue with the series. Still, I recommend it to anyone who can handle violent fantasy better than I.

There's no sexual assault, but plenty of torture and child death, so there's that.
