4.5 stars. Wowzers! If you're looking for a super chilling read with some romance thrown in then this is your book. The first night I started reading it I actually had nightmares and the next morning woke up scared to leave my house in the dark. It's a long book sitting pretty at 677 pages on my kindle and I'll be honest, at times I skimmed over the romance part but it was a great read nonetheless and I can't wait until I get my hands on the next in the series.
Deacon is amazing and Faith was perfect for him. In addition to a wonderful love story this was a good mystery.

The mystery had me scratching my head until just before it was solved (which is the best time for the reader to solve the myster, imo). There was more language and violence than I typically like in a book, but I’m pretty sure that just comes with the genre territory here and is more of a reflection of my tastes as a reader than of the quality of the book. Would definitely recommend to friends who like romantic suspense more than I do.

Psychologist Faith Cochran has changed her identity to escape a stalker who happens to be a serial rapist. He's her former patient and now it appears he's out to kill her. When she returns to her hometown in Cincinnati, total chaos erupts, all unforeseen. FBI Special Agent Deacon Novak has moved back home to Cincinnati from Baltimore to care for his troubled teenage brother. He's assigned to a joint task force with the agency and the Cincinnati Police Department and lands the case involving Faith.
Deacon is an FBI agent with family issues of his own in the form of a 15 year old brother who is nothing but trouble right now. Deacon had to move back to Cincinnati and leave a job and friends he loved in order to try and straighten Ben out. He loves Ben, but he's a handful right now. Deacon meets Faith on a road leading to the property where Faith has come across a victim of our Baddie's, nude and bleeding from cuts all over her body. Deacon is used to using his unusual appearance to shock and unsettle people. Faith looks at Deacon's eyes and calls them "beautiful". Deacon looks at Faith and, even battered and bruised from the accident she has to avoid hitting the girl, thinks she is beautiful too.
The story is presented using different perspectives from Novak, Faith, the serial killer and a current victim. These were clearly defined and done in such a way that it pulls the reader in and makes the suspense feel more amped up.
The mystery was complex and intense. First, the young naked woman, who leads us to the discovery of bodies and a serial killer. Then, Faith is linked to those bodies and has someone attempting to kill her. Secondary characters from other FBI agents to Deacon's family brought additional threats and made the suspense more intense.

I give it 4 stars because as a 'Romantic Suspense' it deserves four stars. maybe even 4.5. It's fast paced. there's suspense and there's romance. Really, exactly as advertised.

Mais um excelente livro de Karen Rose! são sempre garantidos para proporcionar bons momentos. Uma história bem desenvolvida e um leque de personagens construído com a profundidade e a versatilidade habituais de Rose. Pecou, no entanto, pelo final menos bem conseguido e por um ou outro momento mais morto ao longo da narrativa, normal acontecer quando se trata de uma obra de quase 600 páginas.

What's not to love about this author? Sure, the book could have been a little shorter, but I loved it. That says a lot, since I was apprehensive if I would like Deacon Novak as a main character. Turns out not only did I like him? I loved him! Karen Rose remains my favorite author and I love reading every book she comes out with.
4.5 stars. This was the perfect balance of romance and mystery. Great read!
Faith ist Opfer eines Stalkers und hat beschlossen nicht nur ihren Namen sondern auch von Miami nach Cincinnati zu ziehen. Ihre Großmutter hat ihr das Familienhaus vermacht indem sie seit 23 Jahren nicht mehr war, denn mittlerweile verbindet sie keine schönen Erinnerung mit dem Haus. Auf der abgelegenen Strasse muss Faith einer nackten Frau ausweichen, die plötzlich auf der Strasse steht. Ehe Faith merkt wie ihr geschieht ist sie eine Verdächtige der Polizei, doch nicht nur diese hat sie im Visier, denn ihr Stalker ist ihr gefolgt und versucht Faith mit allen Mitteln aus dem Weg zu räumen.
Anfangs hatte ich meine Bedenken das der Thriller so viele Seiten hatte, aber er hat mich bis zur letzten Seite gefesselt. Gut fand ich dass man immer Ort Tag und Uhrzeit bei einem Abschnitt hatte und so Schritt für Schritt alles mitverfolgt hat. Größtenteils wird das Ganze aus Faith und Deacons Sicht geschrieben.
Die Autorin hat ein sehr raffiniertes Versteckspiel nieder geschrieben. Anfangs tappt man noch sehr im Dunkeln und es werden verschiedenen Spuren ausgelegt. Nach und nach setzen sich die verschiedene Puzzelteile zusammen und man folgt einer sehr grausamen Spur, die zu einem der ältesten Motive der Welt führt.
Die Liebesbeziehung ging mir etwas zu rasch voran und bessere Liebesszenen habe ich zwar auch schon gelesen aber das hat mich jetzt nicht weiter gestört, da es den geringsten Teil ausgemacht hat.
Dies ist mein erster Roman der Autorin und bestimmt nicht mein letzter.
