Overall I'd rate the novel 2.5/5. Good for a quick holiday read or listen but not a book you'd read again and again.

I have to preface that I listened to the audiobook and I was hooked within the first 5 minutes. Unfortunately I couldn't help laughing at the female narrator's male character voices or the way she'd state the line that was something like "My most favourite person" and those would often take me out of the moment. That said the premise is great, but I wished that it fell less into the typical cliches, stereotypes and tropes of the mystery thriller genre. The further into the story I got, the more cliches were incorporated and it lost the intrigue that captivated me at the beginning. I was also a bit disappointed in the character development, especially saddened by the way the minority character was described and developed.

This was not for me, it was giving fanfic a little and I felt like nothing really happened until the last 50 pages

The book started with a good plotline, how vicarious a reader can be, and slowly revealing all the plot holes. The protagonist, being a psychologist fails to read all the humans besides her, so far so, she was void of her own husband's past, that's too sketchy a plot to pull off. The protagonist is plain dumb so to speak for the accolades she holds, my guess is the writer tried exploiting the damsel in distress cliche there. So much for a thriller if you could have guessed the book from the beginning, leaving no "ah ha" moments, this is not a thriller.

Really enjoyed the idea of this book, but it just made me sad in a lot of ways.

January 2017: WOW... that's the best one word term I can come up with. The last sentence in the book had me saying WHAT THE F***. However, I conjure up a pretty good reason why I'd do the same damn thing haha. I think that although full of betrayal, grief and tons of lies, I find myself thinking how intriguing it would be to be Iris... I also think their love is amazing ♡♡

I'd definitely refer this book... and I will definitely be checking out more books by Kimberly Belle

November 2024: It's been 7 years since I read this book the first time. It should go without saying that I completely forgot everything in it except that I really enjoyed it and this is why I decided to listen to the audiobook today while crocheting because I thought the memory would come flooding back, but it didn't. I still really like it and maintain my 4 star rating. The narrator did an okay job, except with the accent changes happening the whole book lol. I'd still recommend it.
