Okay. Fast read. But I don't think there was anything new here.

3.5 stars.

This book started strong, the world building at the beginning was phenomenal, and the story was intriguing until about halfway through. The last half felt really sloppy and hastily written, like the author just had a deadline to meet. If there are books in this series, I don’t think I’d be invested enough to know what happens next. I found Kalinda uninspiring, and I didn’t see enough character growth to consider reading more about her. I also felt the relationship between her and other characters was very surface level, and I’m a simp for character development and the emotional connection between characters.

Overall, this was a great hook book, but a let down in the end.

Edit: I cannot believe there are four of these books. I wish the end of the first book hadn’t been such a bummer, because I think I could have really enjoyed this series.

This story felt very familiar. However, there are no real personalities. Everything is an extreme. A baby born and spirited away but discovered when she’s of age. Courtesans as mean girls. Instant obsession with the first man she sees. It was just so predictable and I found my self rolling my eyes, a lot.

This just came down to the fact that this book wasn't written for me. I think my 14 year old niece would love it.

Really good

Trying to find a book series to read after reading ACOTAR and I stumbled across this series. Very glad I found it. Can’t wait to read more about Kali.
