This book pulled me in right away and then got long. It was frustrating that people are so focused on their secrets and never talk to each other. One lie destroyed this family and the ripple effect took away everything!!!

Well written, but honestly kind of boring. Parts of it really dragged, which I didn't expect from a Grishom novel.

interesting story. I did predict a bit of it along the way but Grisham did a nice job of dragging out the suspense. I did not know the information on Douglas MacArthur and will read more about him and his role in WWII in the Pacific. It was also interesting from the story to realize how little power or influence women had just really a short time ago. Not being on juries and being forcibly committed were just a couple of the examples sited in this story.

I typically read serious fiction alternating with nonfiction to make me feel better about myself. It has been decades since I read anything by John Grisham. I forgot how much fun it is to read his books and, honestly, what a good writer he is. Picked this up on a whim and am glad I did. It won't win the National Book Award or a Pulitzer, but it is a blast.

Started with a bang, ended with a whimper. I found the beginning immediately engaging, only to have the suspense drawn through a way too-long part 2, and end with a “oh, yea, that’s what I figured happened” ending. Great writing, but the narrative arc on this one fell flat!

A story about men, from a male perspective, with extraordinarily  traditional male themes and ending.
