I know a lot of people don't like Hrabal - you either love the writing or hate it. I think what is so appealing about it is its humanness. I don't see the vulgarity people usually rebuke Hrabal for. Is it simple? Yes. But that's the point. It's relatable, rough, and life is described in it's purest, ugliest, most disgusting, but also the happiest, form.

I read this book for the maturita exam.

The characters are intriguing. Especially the main character. I find them to be rather complex yet not loveable or hateable. I believe it's because of the fact of how little I know about the characters.

The ordinary life of a person working at the train station during the second world war. How does the war affect him?

I don't want to share any lines.

I like how the book ended.

I'm pleasantly surprised. I thought this book was the same as Postřižiny. I'm glad I read it only because of the maturita exam.
