This was such a delightful and heart-warming read! I saw the movie a couple of years ago and enjoyed it, so I was excited to stumble upon the book at the library.
The characters are all fun and sweet, and the story kept me interested the whole time.
I'll definitely continue with the series, and I highly recommend it!

A quick read. More chick-lit than anything else.

I was very very disappointed with the fourth (and final?) book in Adriana Trigiani's series. Compared to the previous novels, which all really touched me, this one seemed dull and tedious. I found myself not caring about Ave Maria or any of the other characters, which was surprising considering how much I had enjoyed the previous books. The issues are repetitive, and a large part of the book is spend repeating info from the previous novels. This might be good for the reader who hasn't read the first three books, but to me it was just annoying and seemed a waste of time and space. My feelings of Trigiani's authorship are very mixed, some of her books I absolutely love and adore, but the bad ones are really bad. Home to Big Stone Gap definitely isn't her worst, but unfortunately it is still so very very far from her best.

It was hard to get going with this one - and I don't think I will read the others in the series. It was good - but didn't "hold" my attention - I just wanted to finish it, so that's what kept me going.

Why did I read a 3-star book twice? Because reading anything about Ave Maria feels like coming home & sometimes that’s enough.

I really enjoyed this quiet story. The characters were so well developed that I was very attached to them by the end. I definitely plan to read the sequel!

I understand that Trigiani has a theatre background, but please let a professional voice actor perform these books! It hit home a bit as I'm 35 this year too - although my face reading would be a bit different. It does have very accurate descriptions of the what, when, why and how of small town life. Even though my small town is 3000 miles away from Big Stone Gap, it's right next door in the situations and events.

I loved this story! I've read a lot of books by Adriana Trigiani, but you can tell that this character is probably the closest to her heart- she lives in the town that she grew up in and she's written in the first person. I love the main character's voice, she's funny and easy to relate to.

I read this book a few years ago, and had already forgotten the story. I find my forgetfulness both a curse and a blessing. The plus is that I get to rediscover books. This is a nice Saturday afternoon type read. Nothing too major, but a nice story.
