A brief biography of Scott Kelly's life and his recent year-long stay in the ISS.

Intensely interesting if you've ever wondered how the International Space Station functions. Lots of insights about the actual science of space travel with an emphasis on the hardships and how they apply to traveling to Mars.

This book will make you watch all your favorite sci/fi films and read all your sci/fi books in a new light. Space is scary. Real scary.

Scott Kelly, an astronaut who recently returned from a year long mission in space, is back at home re-adjusting to life on earth. Everything feels foreign. In fact, his body is having a hard time readjusting to life on earth and gravity, etc. He wakes up one night with swollen legs and having broken out in a rash. He's concerned, though understands this is in fact the exact reason why he volunteered to spend the year in space -- to see how the human body would react to such a mission.

As a child, Scott was prone to life-threatening activities. He was not a scholar and never had the drive to succeed until one night in his first year in college he discovered a book about Navy pilots. He realized this was purpose in life.

I enjoyed this short excerpt and I know it will be a thrilling read, given his propensity to engage in life-risking behaviors.

this review is based on an excerpt from the book. I will read the full book soon.

Scott Kelly lived the life and experiences that I dreamed of living as a young boy! Wow, what a ride! I am familiar with many of his experiences personally, having served in Naval aviation as well, knowing the culture in an F-14 squadron and the squadron ready room. Perhaps this familiarity is what informed my intense enjoyment of this book. It is a well-written detailed account of not only his year living on the International Space Station, but also the path he trod to get there. I'm really glad I read it. More like this, please! Thanks, Alicia, for the recommendation!

The year 2017 was a fantastic year for space as SpaceX completed 18 rocket launches. For me, SpaceX's success also captivated my interest for space and the feats that are currently being made in the name of all of humanity. For this reason, Scott Kelly's book interested me as I wished to learn more of how life in space actually is for an astronaut (or cosmonaut). Not only is Scott Kelly a great story teller, he is also capable of creating empathy for the reader; such as the awe of space, the stress of death at every turn, or the complexity of time away from loved ones. I highly recommend this book as it has life teachings that could be useful to anyone and I feel like I learned a great amount from it.
