A bit slow but beautifully written. Did open my eyes to some stuff we don't talk about when it comes to the great depression.

I almost gave it 5 stars (would have loved to give it 4.5!), but I really didn’t love the ending. Just a matter of opinion, of course, but I really wish it would have ended differently. The ending made the whole long journey they went through seem a little bit all for nothing. But I loved reading the whole thing and learning more about how things may have been during the Great Depression, as I’ve never read a historical fiction book on this topic before. I do really enjoy Kristin Hannah’s writing style & always enjoy her books.

You’ll need a box of tissues and a glass of water to get through this one. A heavy story of courage and the resilience of the human spirit.
