I really enjoyed this story! I loved how both characters lead with their hearts and feelings, and didn't let anything stop them from moving forward with one another. I especially loved that despite Deacon only ever being with women, he never freaked out or had the whole "is something wrong with me" phase due to him being attracted to Julian. This book really highlights the fact that love is love, and the sex of a person doesn't matter.

Although this was a little slow at times, I think it worked out really great in the end for these characters story. I only wish that we got to read a few letters written to Julian by Rhett, and also whether the father was okay. It seemed he wasn't truly able to mourn the loss of his son because he was trying to keep his family together. If anything, I really felt sorry for him and I would have liked to have had a better ending for him and his relationship with Deacon and Julian.

Keep the tissue box handy

Oh lord this one brought me to tears.
Found families, heartbreak, grief, loss, a toxic parent, unconditional love, righting of past wrongs, emotional growth, this book has it all.
You’ll love every character bar one (although people deal with grief in their own way). Tears of grief, relief, happiness, heartbreak, and joy. Love, how we get there and show it is a key message.
Everyone (well mostly) gets their happily ever after. I’m sad for Bill’s, his compassion for his family really shines through.

4 Stars,

This book was just what I needed to get out of a slump I was about to fall in to.

Julian and Deacon are both suffering with the loss of Deacon's brother who was Julian's best friend and boyfriend. It is a good story about how even in loss you can find something beautiful.

The pacing of the story was good I did feel like there were scenes that were more flushed out than others. I think that Deacon's family dynamic, felt like there could have been more detail showing us rather than telling us how it is for him, that would have gathered more sympathy from me even though what he had to go though I can relate to, with the not feeling good enough in your family compared to your younger siblings.

I think that this was a great read where the drama or conflicts that did happen weren't petty and part of a miscommunication, it was because of outside sources. I enjoy that a lot more.

I can't wait to see what else this author has to offer, because I really enjoyed their writing.

I very much enjoyed reading this book. It was such a beautiful and emotional story. My heart broke for both Julian and Deacon. I liked how their relationship progressed throughout the book. Deacon and Julian were cute together once they realized their feelings for one another. I teared up during a few parts of the book. The bonus epilogue was so sweet I couldn't stop smiling.

Sweet, emotional, and a little spicy. Don’t love the gay for you trope but didn’t mind it in this book.
