I’m a bit conflicted on this book. Black eroticism, lust, and desire are all so commonly villainized and the idea of positive, raw recollections from Black women for Black women is enticing. The stories are diverse and political and cultural and some of them will stick with me for a long time.
I did find myself a bit disappointed in the formatting of the book, where the chapters are not long enough for the nuance I think they deserve. They quickly begin to read like magazine articles that, when all squeezed into one book, become repetitive. That being said, I think the chance for these women to share their stories in a way they otherwise wouldn’t be able to makes it a fulfilling read nonetheless.
