Az Agave Nádasdy Ádám szerkesztésében elkezdte kiadni a Shakespeare Mangákat. Elsőként a Hamletet jelentették meg, s érdeklődve fogtam kezembe a könyvecskét, hogy vajon mit tudnak kihozni belőle.

Read this as an introduction to Hamlet before I read the entire play. I enjoyed it, but most of what I enjoyed was the plot and the characters - which is credit to Shakespeare lol.

A Manga retelling for Shakespeare's Hamlet. So different I just had to give it a go.

While I enjoyed the illustrated changes (e.g. set in the future) I felt some key parts were cut from the story which was a little disappointing. In the end, to play with a classic is tricky and a risk. I feel it opened up this Play to soany new readers which is wonderful. I also enjoy that it was still written in the way in which Shakespeare wrote and spoke. The old English language was present throughout the text.

I did enjoy the fact that at the end there was a recap of the original text which was nice to read. I do plan to try the other books in this series as I bought them all in a 'pack' on Kindle.

3 stars from me

To be or not to be, that is the question ✨
Amazing manga <3 Shakespeare’s “Hamlet” can really fit all shapes, forms, settings and storylines.

The drawings were mediocre and somehow the storyline is supposed to be set into the future. However, there are no allusions to this other than people being "unplugged" and maybe some futuristic backgrounds. What really upset me the most is that so much of the original text is just gone. Sometimes it is lines, whole monologues, soliloquies cut in half, but my favorite scene with the gravediggers ("Alas poor Yorick! I knew him, Horatio!") is just GONE. No explanation. Just cuts from Ophelia dying to the fight scene between Hamlet and Laertes. It bothers me as a lover of Shakespeare to see this wonderful play cut to the studs. The infamous "To Be or Not To Be" is not even all the way there. It hurt to read and not see my favorite quotes. I understand about the idea of directly translating leaves room for error but not whole parts of the story!

What was once a moment of great and fun discovery has now completely crashed. I refuse to read the rest of the series they have. I can't stand the future heartbreak and heresy.
