This book has such a unique plot. Inti works with a project to reintroduce wolves to their native habitats. She also has a disorder called mirror synesthesia which causes her to feel everything that someone else feels. Anyways! This particular project takes places in Scotland. She reintroduced a dozen or so wolves with tons of push back from the community making her a prime suspect for the towns murder.

Somehow this book is a romance and murder mystery all wrapped in one with the main takeaways being about climate change and innate goodness and evil. So unexpected

My main complaint is the lack of development in the characters. I feel like I didn’t get to know them as well as I wanted to and there are a lot of characters introduced very quickly so it can get confusing. This could also be due to me reading it over such a long period of time.

I might need to re read the ending again to really figure out what happened but such an interesting read.

Okay, this book has me gushing. McConaghy has a knack for creating a gorgeous world of dichotomy - gentle but violent, beautiful but dark, quiet but complex. I love her themes of naturalism and conservation. I felt plunged into the same world of Migrations, yet I enjoyed this one more due to the suspense building of the story. This checked so many boxes for what I love in a book. I would recommend noting the trigger warnings for this one, as there are lie some intense themes.

Raw, powerful, sad, hopeful, violent, beautiful – these all describe one of the most compelling books I have read this year. The story of wolves and how they live and breed and communicate, how hard it is to reintroduce them to an area where they are feared and misunderstood, and how vital they are to help the environment would be enough reason to read this book. But it is also a story of twins and the utterly amazing bond between them, it is a story of past trauma and how it affects people in different ways, it is a story of ordinary people and how they are not a whole lot different than wild animals in certain circumstances. It is a story so complex that it can not possibly be given justice in a short review. You must read this yourself to understand the true depth and beauty of this novel.
