I love a good book with we quirky characters. This was a fun read!

A Depression era group of quilters share each others joys and sorrows while keeping each other secrets.

I never read total chicklit. But I have a tendency to rescue books bound for recycling at the store like some people rescue puppies. I know, I know, you can't save them all. But sometimes there's a little mutt making eyes at you. Or, in my case, a tale of Depression-era Kansas tugging at my heartstrings. And bonus - Persian Pickle turns out to be another name for paisley. Who can resist paisley?

"There wasn’t a quilt top turned out by a member of the Persian Pickle Club that didn’t have fabrics from all of us in it. That made us all a part of one another’s quilts, just like we were part of one another’s lives.

This little book is the surprise read of 2020. I was looking for a cozy, relational read, and this book easily hit those marks. A historical fiction written during the dust bowl era of the 1930s in Harveyville, Kansas (a real farm community between Topeka & Emporia), the author made me feel like I was sitting in the room as these ladies quilted together to talk about the good things in life (despite the depression), gossip, and even a little mystery. In the end, the love that they show one another, whether in celebration or trials, make for a sweet story -- not so sweet that it is stagnant, but sweet enough to keep the reader rolling along with it. This is no literary masterpiece, but it is a good read.

I found this book charming. I enjoyed the author’s style and could vividly picture the characters. It was an interesting take on that time period. I enjoyed it!

Clever and unpredictable. I didn't love the characters at first (and it was hard to keep track of all of them), but they grew on me. Fun read.
